The Monster

She lay there moaning with pain
A giant, ugly and worn
Whilst the forest danced in silence
And I stood baffled, forlorn

‘O sweet human, help me out
For I’m a great deal in pain
The thorn yet kills my feet
I do not do this to feign’

‘How do I know your intentions?
You may yet slay me alive
A monster, yes, that’s what you are’
My fear now fresh and rife

‘You are lost, O puny human
And I can show you the way
The forest is wild and dangerous
Now come, do as I say’

I trod like a brave warrior
For a bargain has been struck
My faith drives me to remove her thorn
And alas! Then all goes dark

O foolish! Foolish little me!
A prisoner, that’s all I’m now
As she laughs and screams and strikes
To her unholy whims I bow

‘O mistress, haven’t I pleased you enough?
I have washed, cooked and cleaned
Listened to your tales of woe at night
And kept you happy as you deemed’

But a slave has no right to plead
And still further, justify her cause
Freedom can change the weakest of hearts
So I sit and pray and pause

Until one day, she lies sad and gloomy
And lost in gloomier thoughts
And sips the wine to numb the pain
As I fill her wine-brimmed pots

Her snores soon fill the cave
And I rush out crazed and wild
Her map lying secure in my bags
Away from the monstrous child

The dark nights pass me by
As I walk for days, now lost
Her fear but keeps me going
And freedom, and it’s cost

Hungry, worn and ugly
I find at last what I seek
The salvation to my way
The opening in the creek

I jump as magic enfolds me
And light soon blinds my sight
My body is hurled through limitless holes
And I emerge into the bright

I lie in bed baffled, forlorn
My eyes open and wide
The ceiling scorns my dreams
As distant snores mock my plight.

Shackled..

Is freedom so hard to find
From bonds, yet harder to flee
Like chains that cut into my hands
I struggle, as you laugh with glee

I struggle still as you laugh
While blood seeps from tethered wrists
Yet rays of hope still burn bright
As tears gush down my cheeks.

The dark cloaks me in its cold
And I dream of shackles freed
You rage as wrath fills your soul
While with freedom I quietly tread

The dawn brings with it another day
Chained to bonds, yet harder to flee
Still I struggle with all my might
And hope as you laugh with glee

This too shall pass..

Was it never meant to be
Was it never meant to last
As memories swirl into a big black hole
And forage into the past

Like sand slipping through fingers
And water filling voids forlorn
Drowning in lanes that break the heart
Cast away to shores unknown

Yet they churn and torture the mind
Until novelties are all it seeks
To drench in pleasures hitherto forgotten
And cleanse yet memories bleak

But bygones cannot always be bygones
And the present holy bliss
Yet one day this too shall pass
Buried beyond some forgotten abyss

Torrents of Joy!!

As the winds howl with unworldly roars
And the clouds darken with might
You unchain the shackles of long closed doors
And unleash torrents this wondrous night

The pools ripple with unbridled joy
The walls drench to your touch
As lovers welcome heaven’s envoy
And pleasures yet in their clutch

Lips soaked in your sweet nectar
Words rush to the soul
So long denied such worldly wonder
And delights but untold...

Peace enfolds my parched heart
Cold soothes bruises scorched
You shower such bliss and joyous darts
And decry faith reproached

For solace can yet be found in darkness
And comfort in dreaded cold
Just stretch your hands in holy unconsciousness
And embrace joy tenfold..

Betrayed..

The darkness weighs heavy in my heart
A thousand knives pierce its soul
Blinded by promises that overwhelm the mind
Shrouded by folly and foul.

Yet hope flutters her sprightly wings
Doubt etches rays of trust
Caught in this ever frightening whirlpool
That threatens but all to dust.

Let the pain burn ever more brighter
Until this heart is but left stoned
Waves crashing on its cold surface
May perish decried and condoned.

Still hope flutters her sprightly wings
Igniting flames of love
As tears drip down unwary cheeks
And the heavens break above.
